Writing Helps! Even When We Don’t Want To Believe It Will.
It’s likely one of the least favorite strategies, suggestions, or coping skills that I share. Clients often have a lot of resistance to writing their thoughts down. It takes a lot of mental energy. You then have to acknowledge what is written there on the paper. But for clients with anxiety, it is one of the most effective tools.
We want to support writing our thoughts and feelings down. So we have a stack of notebooks that you can grab at any time during your counseling journey. Your therapist might offer you one at some point in therapy. Lots of people will take home the notebooks, and not use it for a while, but one day, that notebook might come in handy. So give it a try!
